May 17, 2024
:...That firefighter stepped up, put himself in danger, got burned along the way, and pulled them out," Martin County Fire Rescue Chief Chad Cianciulli said.

A firefighter and two workers were injured in an explosion and fire at an Indiantown power plant Thursday evening.

After the smoke had disipated, two workers walked toward the turbine to assess damage.

That's when the explosion occurred.

"As soon as they needed to react, that firefighter stepped up, put himself in danger, got burned along the way, and pulled them out,"  Martin County Fire Rescue Chief Chad Cianciulli told WPBF.

One FPL employee, who was severely burned, was flown by LifeStar to the University of Miami Jackson Memorial Burn Center. The firefighter and the other employee also were transported to a hospital for treatment.

The cause remains under investigation.
